Women's Lacrosse Clipped in Home Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's lacrosse finally managed to open its season on Friday after weather postponed last week's home opener, falling to Concordia Chicago, 13-8.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Trailing 7-4 at the halftime break, the Duhawks saw the gap widen in a hurry as the Cougars came out and scored four consecutive goals in a stretch of 3:06 to take a seven-goal lead
• The blitzkrieg left the Duhawks stunned, but managed to recover with two goals from Clare Brunn less than five minutes later
• With 12:42 remaining and Loras trailing by five, Concordia Chicago went down three players, two because of green cards and one via yellow card … Despite the three-man advantage, the Duhawks could only cut the deficit to four with a goal from Renata Veljacic from the free position
• At 5:36, the Cougars tacked on an insurance goal to put the match out of reach at 13-8

NOTABLES
• Flynn moved to within two points of 100 for her career on Friday, recording two goals and one assist
• After two years as a field player, Rebecca Hiebing made her debut in goal, finishing with seven saves
• Brunn opened her collegiate career in a big way, becoming the second player in program history to score a hat-trick in their college debut, joining teammate Olivia Flynn who scored three goals against Northwestern-St. Paul in the 2017 season opener.
• In total, Brunn's hat-trick was the fifth for the Duhawks in season openers
• Loras dropped to 2-2 all-time against Concordia Chicago, suffering the program's first loss at home on Friday to the Cougars
