Loras Sweeps Grinnell

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College women's softball team swept Grinnell College in a double header. Loras defeated Grinnell in game one, 10-0 forcing a mercy rule, and 9-6 in game two. Lauren Fritz hit the only home run of the day, a two-run home run. 

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED 
Game 1: Loras 10, Grinnell 0
• Loras scored two runs in the first inning by way of Madison Gerbig batting in Noely Baumann and Shannon Coyle scored on an error by Grinnell's short stop. 
• Coyle single to right field to allowed Ashley Lentine to score the third run for the Duhawks
• Ellie Schill stole home to push the Duhawks lead to four
• Fritz single to right field to give Baumann her second run of the game
• Hadalyn Anderson single to right field to bat in pinch runner Maddie Doubek 
• Jade Besler double to right center field to bat in Anderson and Melanie Gerbig 
• Madison Franks scored the final run for Loras thanks to Schill's single. Loras defeated Grinnell by mercy rule in the 5th inning. 

Game 2: Loras 9, Grinnell 6
• Grinnell struck first in the top of the first taking the 1-0 lead, Loras answered in the bottom with three runs from Baumann, Lentine, and Coyle
• The Pioneers equalized scoring two runs in the second to bring the score to 3-3
• Baumann stole home to put the Duhawks up by one
• Fritz two-run home run pushed the Duhawks lead to 7-3.
• Anderson scored a run after the Pioneer third baseman made an error 
• Grinnell tallied three runs in the third, and the final run for Loras came from Baumann as she was batted in by Coyle.
• The game went seven innings but the last score was by Loras in the 5th, the Duhawks took the victory 9-6. 

NOTABLES
• Duhawks record season high 32 at bats, 12 hits, and 7 stolen bases
• Baumann has season high three runs scored and three stolen bases
• Fritz, Baumann, and Coyle leads Loras with 22 hits on the season
