Duhawks host Strikeout Cancer double-header against Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team fell to 10-21-1 after getting swept by Dubuque on Saturday, April 13. The Spartans defeated the Duhawks 9-4, and 10-9 in today's contests. Shannon Coyle set the tone for Loras hitting the only home run for the Duhawks. 

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED 
Game 1: Dubuque 9, Loras 4
Shannon Coyle sent a rocket deep over the center field fence to put the Duhawks ahead in the first inning
• Loras held Dubuque in the second inning and the Sparans tallied three runs in the third and fifth innings. 
Jade Besler single to center field to bat in Alexandra Schmidt 
• Loras' final runs in came from Ashley Lentine's single to center field to bat in Haddie Anderson and Jade Besler to cut Dubuque's lead to one. The spartans led 4-3. 
• Dubuque pulled away in the seventh inning scoring five runs to take game one 9-4. 

Game 2: Dubuque 10, Loras 9
• Dubuque started off strong jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning
• Loras answered with two runs of their own thanks to Coyle's single to bat in Noely Baumann and Lauren Fritz single to left center to bring in pinch runner Ellie Schill 
• The Spartans tallied runs in the second, third, and fifth innings while holding the Duhawks
• Loras battled in the fifth inning grabbing five runs sparked by Haddie Anderson double to left center to bat in three Duhawks thanks to an error by the Spartan short stop. 
• Dubuque scored a two-run home run in the sixth inning. 
• The Duhawks comeback was cut short as the Spartans closed the bottom of the seventh and took the game 10-9.
