Duhawks Advance to the American River Conference Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The season came down to the wire for the Duhawks as they were a part of a possible season ending series. The Duhawks needed two wins to advance to the American Rivers Conference Tournament, and their goal was successful. After winning game one on Friday in extra innings, 6-5, the Duhawks fell to Wartburg in game two, 14-9. The Duhawks battled hard in game three of the series and punched their ticket to the conference tournament with a 7-6 win. The Duhawks will hold the 6th seed in the conference tournament.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Game 1: Loras-6 Wartburg-5 | 10 Innings

-Wartburg took an early 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning by scoring on a double and a single.
-It took Loras until the 6th inning to get the offense going, but scored four runs off a single by Robbie Agerbeek, a Knights error, and a double by Jake Oglesby.
-Wartburg took the lead later in the game on a two-run homer and a solo shot to jump up 5-4.
-Oglesby came up again with a clutch single to tie the game in the 8th.
-In their second extra inning game of the season, the Duhawks came away with the victory on a walk-off double by Luke Fennelly.

Game 2: Loras-9 Wartburg-14
-Loras struck first in the first inning after Austin Konagel stole home to give the Duhawks a 1-0 lead.
-Wartburg responded by scoring two runs in the 2nd inning, and four runs in the 3rd inning.
-The Knights struck again in the 4th and 5th to score eleven unanswered runs to lead 11-1.
-Loras got going again in the 5th, as they scored on a solo shot by Konagel, and a two-run bomb by Danny Paluch.
-The Duhawks added three runs in the 7th inning, but Wartburg responded again to lead 14-7 heading into the bottom of the 9th.
-Loras scored two on a single by Oglesby and a sacrifice fly by Konagel, but it wasnt enough to top the Knights.

Game 3: Loras-7 Wartburg-6
-Wartburg brought their offense from game two and struck early in the 1st inning to lead 2-0.
-The Duhawks scored in the bottom half of the inning and then again in the 2nd to tie the game 2-2.
-The Knights put up four in the 5th to take a 6-2 lead on two RBI singles and a runner stealing home.
-Loras responded with a four spot of their own on a bases loaded walk by Oglesby, a RBI single by Dylan Pardoe, and a 2-RBI single by Fennelly, all happening with two outs.
-With the game tied at 6-6, Cole Thompson singled in Konagel to take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the 8th, which later won the ballgame.

NOTABLES
-Loras advances to the American Rivers Conference Tournament.
-Fennelly hits his first walk-off of his college career with the RBI double in game one.
-Ryan Wohlers picked up his first win for the purple and gold in game three.
-Chasing the record set by Tyler Tomaka, Tanner Fallon comes one save closer to the single-season saves record for the Duhawks, as he grabbed his 6th of the season in game three.

Loras takes the 6th seed in the conference tournament and will face No. 3 Luther College in the first round of tournament play. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 9 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
