DUBUQUE, Iowa (September 20, 2019) - The No. 9 Loras College men's soccer team were defeated by the No. 6 University of Chicago Maroons 2-1 Friday night in the Rock Bowl.Â
Loras led in shots in the first half 9-3, and finished with a 18-8 shot advantage with eight of the Duhawks shots on goal.Â
University of Chicago forward Michael Johnson opened up the scoring in the 50th minute thanks to Peyton Lane's quick dish to put the Maroons up 1-0.Â
Jorge Branco pushed the Maroons lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute with the assist from Sahil Modi.
Mark Broderick scored his fourth goal of the season thanks to the short pass from
Tigrio Huerta in the 81st minute. Broderick's goal cut the Maroons lead to one but it wasn't enough to force extra time as the University of Chicago won 2-1.Â
Duhawk keeper's
Jesse Buffington and
Jack Monson combined for a total of three saves in tonight's contest.Â
Loras will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 against non-conference opponent Iowa Wesleyan. First kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.Â
