September 25, 2019 - The No. 13 Loras College men's soccer team (8-1-1) hosted the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers (3-4-2) in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night, scoring a 4-1 win. The Duhawks hold a 10-3 all-time record against the Pioneers with a 6-0 record at home.
Mark Broderick gave Loras a chance early by taking advantage of a Platteville turnover, but his shot went just wide and hit the post. Minutes later, Broderick received another opportunity on a cross, but a jumping save by the Pioneer goalkeeper stopped the Duhawks again.
With just under 20 minutes to play in the first half, Loras struck for the first goal of the game coming off a corner kick that resulted in a Platteville own goal. The Duhawks finished the first half with 15 shots and seven of them on goal. The Pioneers had three shots with zero on goal at the completion of the first half.
Leading 1-0 to start the second half, Broderick's third scoring opportunity found the back of the net off assists from
Raudel Fierro and
Tigrio Huerta. Four minutes later Loras struck again on an unassisted goal by Fierro that came from inside the box. With a 3-0 lead, the Duhawks were not finished as
Mark Histed scored the fourth goal and his third of the season in the 57th minute.
Trailing 4-0, the Pioneers grabbed their first goal of the game off a corner kick with just under three minutes remaining in the match. Both
Jesse Buffington and
Jack Monson saw time in goal with Monson making two saves.
Loras will resume action on Saturday, September 28 at 6:00 PM, hosting Coe College in its first American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) match of the season. The Duhawks will celebrate Latinx Night on Saturday with in-game promotions and a special Spanish broadcast.Â
