CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 28, 2019) – The Loras College women's tennis team made history on Saturday afternoon, defeating American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe Coe College for the first time in eight meetings, taking five matches against the Kohawks.
Loras held the 2-1 advantage after doubles play with
Sara Backus and
Lauren Diiulio taking the match at No. 2 doubles against Emma Lassen and Ella White, 8-3, and
Audrey Hinz and
Noely Baumann scoring a win the No. 1 position with an 8-7 tiebreaker against Isabella Hoppenjans and Eliza Sundermann.
Three wins in singles play secured the win for the Duhawks. Hinz defeated Sundermann at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-4 and
Isabel Schwabe took her match at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
Noely Baumann won the No. 6 match against Christine Puleo, 6-2, 6-2.
Entering the match, Loras had a 0-7 record against Coe with the best performance in the past decade just a year prior when the Duhawks lone match win came at the No. 3 singles position. Loras began the 2019-20 campaign with the best start in recent history and currently sits second in the A-R-C with a record of 6-1.
Loras (8-1, 6-1 A-R-C) takes a break from conference action to face St. Ambrose University in Davenport on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Matches are set to begin at 4 p.m.
