Box Score

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Sept. 3, 2019) – The Loras College women's volleyball team struggled to find momentum on offense and suffered its first loss of the young 2019 season on Tuesday night, falling 3-0 at the hands of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers (3-2).

Loras opened the match with an 14-8 lead off of kills from Lyndsi Wilgenbusch, Kelly Boge, Abby Allgeyer and Moira Mixan, but the Pioneers slowly chipped away at the deficit and soon knotted the score 16-16. Loras regained control and a 24-22 lead off a block from Jackie Alberto and Wilgenbusch, but Platteville quickly diffused the set-point with a kill and an ace to lead 25-24. The Pioneers committed a service error that tied the score 25-25, but two unfortunate errors by the Duhawks ended the set in favor of the Pioneers, 27-25.

Loras fell behind early in the second set, but a kill from Mixan and blocks from Alberto, Kayla Kinney and Jessalyn Roling helped get the Duhawks back in the set, cutting the Pioneers' lead, 8-6. Loras trailed the entirety of the set, tying the set 22-22 off a service error by Platteville, but the Pioneers finalized the score with three-straight service aces to win 25-22.

The Duhawks looked to the third set to make a comeback, capitalizing on kills from Kinney and Kendra Cave as well as multiple errors by Platteville to take an 8-5 lead. The Pioneers responded with five-straight points before a service error gave the ball back to the Duhawks. It was the last time Loras would have the lead, though back-to-back kills from Kinney and Cave brought the Duhawks within one, and the Pioneers scored three kills and an ace to take the match, winning the third set, 25-20.

The Duhawks' defense came up with six blocks in the first set en route to 12 total blocks in the match. Alberto came away with six while the Pioneers' tallied three, but Loras struggled offensively, hitting a .084 average and registering 23 kills while Platteville ended the match with a .211 average and 38 kills.

The Duhawks' (4-1) next match is set for Friday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. when Loras hosts St. Norbert College for the first day of the Loras Invite. Links to live in-match coverage can be found HERE.
