DES MOINES, Iowa (Oct. 17, 2020) – Loras College women's tennis freshman
Clair Moore was the 2020 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) C-Flight Singles Champion at the conference tournament on Saturday, improving to 7-1 in singles action this season. The 2020 championship took place at three host sites in the Des Moines area to accommodate the one-day format.
Moore won her opening match against Luther College's Natalie Peterson, 8-4 before sweeping Buena Vista University's Khamedriah Grimes, 8-0 to advance to the quarterfinals match. She then defeated Central College's Maddie Holle, 8-3 and came away with an 8-4 win in the semifinals against the University of Dubuque's Alyssa Stevenson. In the championship match, she made quick work of Central's Allie Kreider, winning the match 8-2 to start her collegiate career with a conference title and gold medal.
In other action for the Duhawks, in C-flight singles,
Molly Monson won her first match against Dubuque's Kate Mar, 8-1 and in the B-flight singles,
Mariana Bayona Paez won her first-round consolation match against Simpson College's Kennedi Wright by a score of 8-4. In A-doubles,
Audrey Hinz and
Maddie Smith advanced to the consolation semifinals match with a hard-fought 8-6 win against Coe College's Eliza Sundermann and Emma Lassen and
Alexandra Oestreich and
Jackie Wells started their first conference experience with a win in B-doubles against Nebraska Wesleyan University's Nicole Cerio and Carley Rubenking, 8-2.Â
Lora will resume regular season play on Tuesday, Oct. 20 when the Duhawks celebrate Senior Day with a match against Wartburg College. Matches at the Tucker Tennis Courts begin at 4 P.M and social distancing and masks are required for all spectators.
