MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Feb. 29, 2020) – The Loras College men's tennis team (4-4)split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, taking a 6-3 win against Cornell College (8-2) to start the day before conceding a 5-4 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-6).
Loras held a 2-0 advantage after doubles play against the Rams in the first match of the day with
Riley Collins and
Sean Gelski defeating Drew Arnold and Alejandro Colorado at the No. 2 spot, 8-3, and
Tommy Linkenheld and
Connor Pivnicka defeated Koichi Okazaki and Nick Adamou, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Cornell tallied the first wins in singles at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions but Pivnicka tallied the first win for the Duhawks at No. 4 against Arnold (6-3, 6-4) and Linkenheld followed suit with a 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 tiebreaker win at No. 4 against Adamou.
Eian Coad secured the win for Loras with his victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Okazaki 6-0, 6-1.
Against the Raiders, the Duhawks scored a win at No. 3 doubles as Pivnicka and Linkenheld made swift work against Joshua Fay and Nathan Chapman with an 8-1 win. MSOE held a 2-1 advantage going into singles play and scored the first two wins at No. 1 and 2, but
Konnor Barth stopped the run and tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Ryan Emerich to keep the score close. The Raiders took the next match at No. 3 which season the win but Coad and Pivnicka finished out the match with wins at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively. Picnicka defeated Fay 6-0, 6-2 and Coad recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Peter Gudopp.
Loras hosts its first match of the spring season on Saturday, Mar. 7 against Lawrence University. Match play begins at 6 P.M.
