CLERMONT, Fla. (March 6, 2020) – After a tough day four in Florida the Loras College softball team (6-4) bounced back defeating The Sage Colleges (0-2) 10-2 in five innings. The second game of the day was against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute who dominated in the circle all game defeating the Duhawks 4-0.

In the top of the first inning, Gabriella Garcia reached base on an error by the third baseman and later scored on an RBI single from Hadalyn Anderson. In the circle for the Duhawks was Kyleigh Becker who proved to be too much for the Gators early on as she only threw ten pitches in the bottom of the first inning, striking out the last two batters. Garcia once again got on base for the Duhawks after hitting a leadoff double to right-center field. Loras went on to score two runs in the top of the third inning as Abigail Jones and Jessica Bulanda both crossed home plate. The Gators responded with their first run of the game in the bottom of the third making the score 3-1 heading into the fourth inning. Hannah Wubben pinch-hit for the Duhawks in the top of the fourth hitting an RBI double scoring Ellie Schill from second base. Garcia eventually brought Wubben home after hitting a single up the middle. Sydney Kunkel hit an RBI triple to left field scoring Garcia from second base giving the Duhawks a 6-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning. Loras took advantage of the top of the fifth inning tacking on four more runs to give them a 10-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Gators failed to score two runs in the bottom of the inning-ending the game as the eight-run-rule went into effect giving Loras a 10-2 victory over the Sage Colleges.

Against Rensselaer Polytechnic, Vanessa Oliva recorded the only hit through seven innings for the Duhawks. The Red Hawks pulled ahead steadily with a three-run inning in the top of the fourth giving them the 4-0 advantage over the Duhawks. This lead would prove to be too much to overcome for Loras as the bottom of the seventh inning concluded with the Red Hawks coming out ahead 4-0.

The Duhawks will play two games on Sat. March 7, with the first game set to start at 4:00 PM (ET) against Geneva College (PA.) followed by a 6:30 PM (ET), start versus The Catholic University of America.
