WAVERLY, Iowa (Oct. 20, 2021) - The Loras College men's soccer team (8-6-2, 3-2-1 A-R-C) was at Salzwedel Field in Waverly, Iowa Wednesday night to take on American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) rival Wartburg College (7-5-2, 4-2-1 A-R-C). After a dramatic end to regulation saw the game tied at 1-1, the two A-R-C foes battled in double overtime where the Duhawks emerged victorious on a Wartburg own goal to take their third conference victory of the year.

The first goal of the game came in the 17th minute as Reed Miklavcic charged the ball down the left side of the field, connecting with Kevin Kucaba in the box who put a body-contorting header past Wartburg keeper Patrick McMahon to put the Duhawks up 1-0 where the score stayed through the final moments of the game.

With 20 seconds left on the clock, Wartburg drew a foul outside of the box to earn a free kick that led to the Knights' equalizer within the final moments of regulation.

After one period of overtime passed and the score stayed at a stand-still, the game went into double overtime. With just under two minutes to play, Patrick Clancy charged the ball to the left corner and put a ball into the box where a Wartburg defender slid in to break up the cross but touched the ball into his own net to seal the deal and solidify the victory for the Duhawks.

It was a physical battle through all 108 minutes of play, seeing a total of 31 fouls in the game with three cards shown. The Duhawks outshot the Knights 10-8 with six shots reaching net. Kucaba's goal in the 17th minute marks his second of the season.

The Duhawks return home to the Rock Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 23 as they face Buena Vista University Beavers on Senior Day. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM.
