Oct. 9, 2021 – The Loras College women's tennis team (6-4, 4-3 A-R-C) posted a pair of American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) wins on Saturday at the Tucker Tennis Courts, opening the day with a 9-0 sweep against Buena Vista University (1-11, 1-6 A-R-C) before scoring an 8-1 win against Nebraska Wesleyan University (1-9, 1-6 A-R-C) in the afternoon.
The Duhawks dominated in the opening match of the day with
Sara Backus and
Dorothy Deans and
Clair Moore and
Alex Oestreich posting 8-0 wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, respectively.
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Nicole Lange and Alexis McGinnis. The Duhawks remained relentless in singles action with Moore starting things off with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 against Lexie Bruns followed by Backus going 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 against Sam Phung, Deans posting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 5 against Madison McGaffin and Oestreich continuing the trend with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Abigail King at No. 6 singles. Schwabe collected a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 against McGinnis and Diiulio wrapped it up with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Lange at the top spot.
In the second match of the day, Loras opened with another sweep of doubles with Diiulio and Schwabe winning 8-1 against Brooke Sailer and Ella Ford at No. 1, Moore and Oestreich winning 8-2 at No. 3 against Crystal Craft and Carley Rubenking, and Backus and Deans battling through to an 8-7 win at the No. 2 position against Kailey Jay-Krissler and Addi Duranski. The Prairie Wolves kept the Duhawks from two perfect sheets with a win at No. 1 but Loras won the No. 2 match with Schwabe defeating Ford 6-3, 6-2, the No. 5 match with Deans defeating Krissler 6-3, 6-2 and Oestreich taking a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles against Rubenking. Two three-set showdowns came into play at No. 3 and 4 but both Duhawks came away with the wins. Moore defeated Craft 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 3 and Backus took a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win against Duranski at No. 4.
The Duhawks wrap up the conference slate with a crosstown rivalry match on Tuesday, Oct. 12, hosting the University of Dubuque at 3:30 P.M.
