Swim and Dive Squares off Against Grinnell in Second Straight Dual Meet

Nov. 20, 2021 - Coming off of a dominant win against the Simpson College Storm on Friday night, the Loras College men's and women's swimming teams played host to the Grinnell College Pioneers on Saturday for their second dual meet of the weekend.

The 200 yard medley relay team consisting of Nina Schiro, Kinsey Bogen, Amber Forbort, and Ann Quinn started off the meet well, placing second with a time of 2:01.01. On the men's side, Jon Broas, Brian Day, Noah James, and Zach Nelson earned two points with their third place finish. In the women's 200 yard freestyle, Molly Strohmeyer and Taylor Hrabak combined for seven points.

Nina Schiro had two other second place finishes including the 200 and 100 yard backstroke. Brian Day earned a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with his time of 1:05.95.

The Duhawks dominated diving earning sixteen points in the first round through the efforts of Nicholas Schlader, Gannon Harrington, and Martin Harrington.

Molly Strohmeyer, Moran Haus, and Grace VanPetten combined for eight points in the 500 yard freestyle with their second, third, and fifth place finishes respectively. Elli Stine earned a first place finish for the Duhawks in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:39.67.

The Duhawks swept the 200 yard IM on the men's side, led by Brad LaGrange in first place, Jon Broas in second, and Payton Markowski in third. The Duhawks combined for sixteen points in the event. The 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Ann Quinn, Amber Forbort, Taylor Hrabak, and Kinsey Bogen earned a first place finish with their time of 1:49.52. The men also earned a first place finish with Gannon Harrington, Roberto Solis, Christopher Grunke, and Jacob Priewe finishing with a time of 1:47.81.

The Duhawks ended the meet falling to Grinnell 71-193 on the women's side and 101-182 on the men's side.

The teams are set to travel to Rochester, Minn. on Friday, Dec. 3 for a weekend of competition in the Rochester Invitation for their winter training trip and return to San Jose Poll on Saturday, Jan. 8 to take on the North Central College Cardinals.
