CLINTON, Iowa (Mar. 10, 2021) – Heading into the final match of the day tied 4-4, the Loras College men's tennis team (2-3) took the University of Northwestern (Minn.) (6-0) to the limits in a marathon matchup on Tuesday, but fell at the hands of the Eagles, 5-4.
Loras took the lead in double play, 2-1, with a win by
Connor Pivnicka and
Riley Collins at the No. 3 position against Stewart Morrell and Isaac Velgersdyke and
Tommy Linkenheld and
Konnor Barth, 8-7 against Jack Geurkink and Adam Ryerse at No. 2 doubles.
Eian Coad kept it going for the Duhawks into singles play, making quick work of Tyrus Studer at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0 but Northwestern won the next three matches to take the lead, 4-3.
Joe Schneider gave Loras the tying win at the No. 4 position, taking down Matthew Wedin 6-4, 6-2 but the Eagles took the No. 5 match to narrowly edge the Duhawks to stay undefeated with a 5-4 win.
The Duhawks are back in action on Saturday, Mar. 13 against Wisconsin Lutheran College. A location and time is to be announced.
