HARTLAND, Wis. (Mar. 13, 2021) – The Loras College women's tennis team (6-4) took command of the match early and never looked back against the Wisconsin Lutheran College (2-6) Warrriors on Saturday, coming away with a 7-2 victory.
The Duhawks started the day with a win at No. 2 doubles as
Sara Backus and
Clair Moore defeated Jena Smith and Izzy Hawley, 8-2, and
Audrey Hinz and
Lauren Diiulio followed suit with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Kaytlynn Hartfield and Katelynn Haskell. The Warriors rallied back to take a closely-contested No. 3 match, but Loras held the 2-1 lead going into singles.
Wisconsin Lutheran tied the score 2-2 with a win at the No. 4 position but Hinz led the charge for the Duhawks to sweep the next five matches, starting with her win at No. 1 against Hartfield, 6-2, 6-1 and
Isabel Schwabe won her match at No. 2 against Gabrielle Medema, 7-5. Diiulio defeated Haskell at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4 to seal the win and Backus added a 6-0, 6-4 win against Hawley at No. 5 with
Alexandra Oestreich defeating Sky Pope at No. 6 in a 6-0, 5-7, 10-8 tiebreaker.
The Duhawks will be on the road again on Sunday, Mar. 28 in Ripon, Wis. to play the Ripon College Redhawks. Matches begin at 2 P.M.
