MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Mar. 31, 2021) – Starting off with a 3-0 sweep to open doubles action, the Loras College women's tennis team (7-4) won its third-straight match of the spring season on Wednesday, cruising to an 8-1 victory against Cornell College (4-5).
Audrey Hinz and
Lauren Diiulio scored an 8-4 win against Liv Aractingi and Emmaline Fievet at No. 1 doubles followed by an 8-2 win for
Clair Moore and
Sara Backus at No. 2 against Regina Bermudez Smith and Amanda Dragon. The freshman duo of
Alexandra Oestreich and Jakie Wells took Makayla Johnson and Ashley Mink to the tiebreaker at the No. 3 position, coming away with a hard-earned 8-7 win to complete the doubles' sweep.
Loras kept it going into singles action with Hinz defeating Aractingi, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and
Isabel Schwabe defeating Fievet 6-2, 6-2. Diiulio defeated Johnson, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 and Moore added a win at No. 4 against Bermudez Smith, 6-1, 7-5. The Rams scored the win at No. 6 but the Duhawks had already secured the win with Backus adding a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 5 against Amanda Dragon.
The Duhawks will play one more match against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday, Apr. 11 before beginning the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Team Championship Tournament on Apr. 27. Match time and location against the Raiders is yet to be determined.
