Carly Fischer and sophomore
Alyssa Pfadenhauer won individual titles at the DIII Elite Championship, hosted by Wartburg College, on Mar. 12-13, leading the No. 5-ranked Loras College women's track and field team to a third-place team finish, a school record performance, and multiple top-ten marks to conclude the indoor track and field season.
Fischer defended her top-seed in the weight throw to win the event on Friday with a toss of 16.48 meters and fellow top-seeded competitor Pfadenhauer upheld her mark to win the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.98. Qualifying with the fastest time in the prelims of the 60-meter dash,
Marion Edwards added two podium finishes in the 60 and 200-meter dashes, placing third in the 60-meter dash (7.80 seconds) and second in the 200-meter dash (25.76).
Kassie Rosenbum set her third indoor record in the 3,000-meter run, placing second with a time of 9:44.14 to beat the previous record by nearly two seconds. She is now the program record holder in the mile, 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs.
Brianna Renner added a personal-best performance to place sixth in the race and sits fourth in program history with a time of 10:18.96.
The 4-by-400-meter relay team of
Stevie Lambe,
Merryl Green, Bahl and Pfadenhauer placed second with the fourth-fastest time in program history (3:55.01) and the distance medley relay quartet of
Kaylee Osterberger,
Ellie Osterberger, Lambe and Rosenbum finished third with the fourth-fastest time in Loras history (12:09.08).
Elayna Bahl posted a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.95 seconds) and the Duhawks saw
Grace Alley improve her rank on the all-time top-ten list in the triple jump with a mark of 11.02 meters to place seventh overall and sit fourth in program history.
In the team race, the Duhawks finished third with 75.50 points. Conference champions and No. 6 Wartburg won the meet with 131.50 points and crosstown rival the University of Dubuque finished second with 80.50 points.
Loras now shifts focus to the outdoor season with the first meet set for Saturday, Mar. 27 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
