MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Mar. 16, 2021) – In the final tune-up before American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action begins, the Loras College men's tennis team (4-3) cruised to its second-straight victory on Tuesday against Cornell College (4-3), defeating the Rams, 8-1.
Loras swept doubles action to take an early 3-0 lead with
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier came away with a hard-fought 8-7 tiebreaker win against Federico Polidori and Alexander Hadler at No. 1 doubles,
Riley Collins and
Connor Pivnicka defeated Chris Pena-Hull and Alejandro Colorado, 8-6, at No. 2, and
Tommy Linkenheld and
Joe Schneider won the No. 3 match against Drew Arnold and Bryce Fincher, 8-4.
The Rams came back to start singles with a win at the No. 2 position, but the Duhawks swept the rest of the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-3 win for Blomquist against Polidori at No. 1, a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 3 for Schneider against Arnold, and a 6-1, 6-4 win for Kampmier at No. 5 against Colorado.
Eian Coad added a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Michael Coester at No. 6 and Collins battled through a 6-3, 6-7, 9-7 tiebreaker marathon to defeat Penas-Hill at No. 3.
The Duhawks face their first A-R-C opponent in Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday, Mar. 20 against Buena Vista University. Matches begin at 1 P.M.
