WAVERLY, Iowa (Mar. 27, 2021) – The Loras College women's lacrosse team (4-2, 1-0 MWLC) kept its win streak alive with its first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) win, defeating Wartburg College (0-5, 0-1 MWLC) by a score of 14-8.
Hannah Medina put the Duhawks ahead early with a goal at the 28:44 mark and struck again a minute later to give Loras a 2-0 lead. The Knights won the following draw and capitalized with a quick goal to get on the board but
Marianne Gleason won the next draw and took it to the net herself to extend Loras' hold, 3-1. Gleason converted a free-position shot at 24:24 and goals by
Erin Conley off the assist from
Katlynne Wolf and two from Brunn kept the Duhawks rolling to a 7-1 lead with 16:50. Medina scored again and Conley helped the Duhawks keep the scoring run alive with another goal to lead 9-1 with 9:30 left in the half. Wartburg added three more in the final nine minutes, but Brunn finished the half for Loras with another goal to send the Duhawks into halftime with a 10-4 lead.
Wartburg struck first in the second half but Brunn and Conley score to put Loras up 12-5 and both teams traded points throughout the half but it was Brunn with the final say in the game at the 2:50 mark, giving the Duhawks their first conference win of the season, 14-8.
Brunn had another team-leading performance with five goals while Medina added three and Gleason scored twice. Gleason and Wolf both added an assist while Tilkes had six ground balls. Gleason was pivotal at the circle, helping the Duhawks with seven draw controls.
Lydia Phelps added 14 saves in the win.
The Duhawks go on the road to continue MWLC action at Monmouth College on Saturday, Apr. 3. Game time is set for 1 P.M.
