RIPON, Wis. (Mar. 28, 2021) – A last minute lineup adjustment before the match left the Loras College men's tennis team (7-3, 2-0) without three of its starters in the lineup against nonconference opponent Ripon College (1-3) on Sunday but the Duhawks rallied to pull the weight and came away with a 5-4 win against the Red Hawks.
Loras was down to start without players at the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles but
Kevin Blomquist and
Konnor Barth gave Loras an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and
Eian Coad and
Sean Gelski scored an 8-4 win at the No. 2 position, putting the Duhawks up 2-0 to start the match. With the gap in singles, the Red Hawks had it tied 2-2 to start singles play but Coad gave Loras back a 3-2 lead with a 6-0 sweep at No. 2 singles, moving up from his regular position at No. 6 singles. Ripon came back to win the No. 1 singles match and No. 5 to take the lead 4-3, but Gelski and Barth won their matches at No. 4 and No. 3 singles to seal a hard fought under-dog victory.
The Duhawks resume conference action on Tuesday, Apr. 20, hosting the University of Dubuque at the Tucker Tennis Courts. Matches begin at 3:30 P.M.
