Apr. 14, 2021 – The Loras College men's tennis team (8-3, 3-0 A-R-C) improved to 3-0 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action and made swift work of cross-town foe the University of Dubuque on a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Spartans with a 9-0 sweep at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
Riley Collins and
Connor Pivnicka got things started with an 8-0 win against Maxwell Flaten and Kody Hampton at No. 3 doubles followed by a pair of 8-2 wins by
Konnor Barth and
Tommy Linkenheld against Stefan Zrnic and Zach Norman at No. 2 and
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier against Josh Husemann and Brady McIntyre at No. 1. In singles, Blomquist won his match against Zrnic, 6-1, 6-2 and Collins added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Husemann before Linkenheld scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory against McIntyre at No. 3.
Joe Schneider found himself battling back from a 6-0 first set deficit against Norman but went on to win the second set, 6-4, and take the match in the tiebreaker, 10-4. Barth defeated Flaten, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position and
Eian Coad completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Hampton at No. 6.
The Duhawks look to keep the conference winning streak alive as they open a busy three-match week on Apr. 22 in Cedar Rapids against Coe College. Match play begins at 3:30 P.M.
