Men's Soccer Ties with Norse in Double Overtime

Contact: Nathan Cameron, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, 563-588-7243

Mar. 30, 2021 - The Loras College men's soccer team (1-0-1, 1-0-1 A-R-C) welcomed the Luther College Norse (0-0-1, 0-0-1 A-R-C) to the Rock Bowl Tuesday evening in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup. The Duhawks entered the match seeking vengeance after seeing the Norse last in the A-R-C Tournament Championship on Nov. 9, 2019, but after a four goal first half and two overtime periods the two teams recorded their first draw of the season.

The Norse put two goals up quick on the Duhawks, both coming in the first five minutes of the match on a goal by Marcos Vila in the third minute and another by Max Pardo in the fifth on a goal assisted by Will Overberg.

Loras began their comeback in the 17th minute, as Alex Beausoleil found the ball at his feet in the box and hit a rocked into the back of the net to cut the deficit to one. Two minutes later, Juan Jose Arias Mondragon fielded a perfect pass from Jose Melo to place a shot in the bottom corner of the net and tie the score at 2-2. The score remained tied through the second half, forcing two overtime periods to commence but neither side found the net at the end of 110 minutes of play.

The Duhawks dominated offensively, taking 22 shots in the match with 12 on goal, outshooting the Norse 22-7. Tigrio Huerta led the attack with three shots on goal while Mondragon had two. Melo, Kevin Kucaba, Tommy Schmitt, Patrick Clancy, Juan David Aristizabal, Jose Cardenas and Beausoleil all contributed offensively with a shot on goal each. Goalkeeper Seth Kurzynski faced five shots on goal in the match, making one save and allowing two goals.

The 2020 (Spring 2021) season continues for the Duhawks on Saturday, Apr. 3 as they are set to face the Central College Dutch at 3:30 PM at the Rock Bowl.
