Apr. 3, 2021 - Amassing a 36 shot total, the Loras College men's soccer team (2-0-1, 2-0-1 A-R-C) pounded its way to victory over the Central College Dutch (1-1-0, 1-1-0 A-R-C) in an American Rivers Conference contest at the Rock Bowl. The Duhawks rifled 16 shots on net, with
Patrick Clancy leading the charge with five of his own as the Duhawks notched their second win of the season.
It was a steady attack from the Duhawks in the first half of the match but the score remained 0-0 until the 32nd minute when a foul inside the box put
Jose Melo on the penalty shot for Loras. Melo drilled a shot to the bottom right corner of the net past Central goalkeeper John Foster for the first goal of the match, taking the Duhawks into halftime with a 1-0 advantage over the Dutch.
The Duhawks got off to a hot start in the second half with
Felipe Ramirez recording his first goal of the season after he lined a shot off of a Central defender, catching the deflection back at his feet and putting a hard shot ball to the back of the net for the Duhawks' second goal of the match to take the score to 2-0 where it stayed through the remainder of regulation.
Of the Duhawks 16 shots on goal, Clancy accounted for five alone while Ramirez had four and Melo,
Alex Beausoleil and
Luke Baker each had two.
Kevin Kucaba had one shot on net in the match for Loras. Keeper
Seth Kurzynski recorded his first clean sheet of the year with a light day in net, seeing only one shot on goal from the Dutch and making the save.
Loras is set to take on cross-town rival the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Apr. 7. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 PM at Oyen Field in Dubuque, Iowa.
