Apr. 7, 2021 - The Loras College men's soccer team (2-0-2, 2-0-2 A-R-C) made the short trip across town to face off against the University of Dubuque Spartans (2-1-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C) in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) battle. After a first half goal from
Patrick Clancy, Dubuque responded late in the second half to force overtime where the two rivals ended the match with a draw.
The Duhawks struck first in the 40th minute of the match when
Kevin Kucaba centered a perfect pass into the box where Clancy, a sophomore from Chicago, Ill., soared above the Dubuque defense and headed the ball past goalkeeper Brandon White to give the Duhawks a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
Loras led through the second half until the 83rd minute when Dubuque's Draek Littler scored with an assist from Joel Johansson to force the match into overtime.
Two overtime periods were necessary to decide a victor, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw after neither side found the back of the net.
The match saw both sides attack the net with a combined 31 shots on the night. The Duhawks had 13 total shots with four shots on goal while A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week
Seth Kurzynski kept busy in net, seeing seven shots on goal and making six saves.
Clancy led the charge offensively with four total shots and a goal while Kucaba had three shots and an assist.
Tigrio Huerta rounded out the attack with two shots on goal for the Duhawks.
The Duhawks are slated to take on the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday, Apr. 10 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The make is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
