WINONA, Minn. (Mar. 6, 2021) – The Loras College women's tennis team (4-4) opened the spring season on the road at Saint Mary's University (1-1) on Saturday but dropped the match 7-2 against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals took the No. 1 and 3 matches in doubles play to take a 2-0 lead but
Sara Backus and
Clair Moore teamed up at No. 2 to defeat Kennedy Morgan and Kailee Johnson, 8-6 and get the Duhawks on the board. Though the Cardinals continued to hold strong in singles play to seal the win, Backus scored her second win of the day for the Duhawks at the No. 4 position, coming back from a first-set setback against Johnson to win the second, 6-4 and the tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Duhawks get back into action on Tuesday, Mar. 9, playing the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in Clinton, Iowa. Matches begin at noon.
