Apr. 10, 2021 – Taking a break from tournament play, the Loras College men's golf team played the University of Dubuque in a match play event on Friday and Saturday. The Duhawks came back for a strong showing in singles action on Saturday but came up short in a 12-6 decision against the Spartans.
On Friday, both teams played a two-person best-ball format. The Spartans won four matches on the first day while the Duhawks halved two as Dubuque headed into the second day with a 5-1 lead. Â
Bo Burgmeier and
Craig Collins halved their match against Kane Hyde and Wyatt Wagner and
Buddy Martens and
Sam Martin halved their match against Conner Michels and Brad Buechel. On Saturday, Loras picked up five wins in a singles matchup format with
Jack Suedbeck taking his match against Levi Swanson, 2 and 1 and Martin posted a one-up win against Alex Staver. Burgmeier also added a one-up win against Garvin Paper and
Jake Peiser won his match against Jordan Elliott, 6 and 4.
William Schimbke won his match against Hyde, 5 and 3 but the Spartans took seven matches in singles play to win the event, 12-6.
The Duhawks will compete at Carthage College on Tuesday, Apr. 13. Tee times begin at 9 A.M. at the Kenosha Country Club.
