Apr. 13, 2021 - The Loras College women's soccer team (5-1-0, 5-1-0 A-R-C) took on the Wartburg College Knights (5-0-0, 5-0-0 A-R-C) Tuesday evening at the Rock Bowl in an American Rivers Conference bout. The Duhawks made a strong second half push but were edged by one at the end of regulation.
Wartburg struck first in the 14th minute as Kate Luers caught a pass for an unassisted goal to go ahead 1-0 where the stayed through the first half.
In the second half, the Duhawks offense sparked as
Payton McDonnell set up the attack on a corner kick, finding
Abby Eriksen in the box who soared over the Wartburg defense to put a header in the back of the net for the equalizer.
Luers went on to score again for the Knights on another deflected pass that landed at her feet in the 74th minute to take the match to its final 2-1 score.
The Duhawks outshot the Knights 17-15 in a highly contested match with seven shots on net. A chippy ending to the match saw Wartburg's Emily Fontana pick up the match's only yellow card.
Emily Perhats and McDonnell got off four shots for the Duhawks while Eriksen followed with three of her own.
Brynn Jacobi and
Caitlin Farrell added two apiece and
Ryleigh O'Brien and
Hannah Schmitz each notched one.
Loras is scheduled to travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday, Apr. 16 to take on the Kohawks from Coe College. The match is set to begin at 5:00 PM at Clark Field.
