CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 11, 2021) – After a schedule change adjusted the start of the 2021 season, the Loras College women's tennis team played its first match and squared off against American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe Coe College on Saturday but came out on the wrong end of a 7-2 decision against the Kohawks.
In three tightly contested doubles matches, the Duhawks took the No. 1 match with
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe defeating Isabella Hoppenjans and Madison Schultz, 8-5. The Kohawks took the No. 2 and 3 matches to lead 2-1 going into singles play and kept the momentum going to win the No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 matches to take the win.
Sara Backus came through for Loras to win the No. 5 match against Claudi Bilkey, 6-0-, 7-5.
The Duhawks continue conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 14, traveling to play Luther College. Matchplay against the Norse begins at 1 P.M.
