Sept. 18, 2021 – Sara Backus posted a win in singles play for the Loras College women's tennis team (0-3, 0-2 A-R-C) on Saturday in the Duhawks' nonconference matchup against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (11-0) but the Pointers kept their unblemished record with an 8-1 win.
The Duhawks put up a fight in doubles play to open the match with
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe forcing Barbara Covek and Jenna Koepp to an 8-5 decision, but the Pointers took a 3-0 lead after doubles. In singles, Backus posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against Chloe Letthold at the No. 4 position and Diiulio had a tight match at No. 1 against Covek, going 6-3, 6-4 but UW-Stevens Point held out to win five matches in singles and take the win.
The Duhawks' next match is another nonconference matchup at home as Loras plays host to Cornell College on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Matches at the Tucker Tennis Courts begin at 4:00 P.M.
