Contact: Nathan Cameron, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, 563-588-7243

Sept. 22, 2021 - Entering the game on a three-game win streak, the Loras College men's soccer team (5-2-1, 0-0-0 A-R-C) returned to the Rock Bowl for their second game at home in a week's time against the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Warhawks (5-0-1, 0-0-0 WIAC). The score didn't budge from a 2-2 stalemate through the second half of regulation, forcing the game into double overtime to decide the victor, but the Warhawks struck first to take the 3-2 win.

The Duhawks got on the board early in the first half as a foul inside the box brought Tigrio Huerta to take a penatly kick in the seventh minute. Huerta lined up a perfect ball into the bottom right corner of the net past Whitewater keeper Jake King for the first goal of the game. Minutes later the Warhawks put two up on the board to take a 2-1 lead before yet another foul in the box saw Huerta back in the box for the second penalty kick of the game. Again, Huerta put the ball past King to tie the game back at 2-2 where the score stayed through regulation.

After neither team struck in the first period of overtime, the game went into a second overtime. A foul in the Duhawks' offensive zone saw Juan Jose Arias Mondragon set to take the kick, and on a play that saw Patrick Clancy taken down in the box, the referree's whistle stayed silent, which led to the Warhawks taking possession of the ball and sending a long pass down field for Tucker Jahns to score in the 104th minute to end the game at 3-2.

Loras hammered Whitewater offensively, taking 27 total shots in the game while holding the opposition to just 12. Kevin Kucaba shot two missiles on net in the game, both just narrowly missing with one off the crossbar, while Huerta added two shots on goal, both finding the back of the goal for the Duhawks' two goals in the game.

The Duhawks return to play on Saturday, Sept. 25 as they open their American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) schedule in Lincoln, Neb. against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM at Abel Stadium.
