WHITEWATER, Wis. (Sept. 29, 2021) - After opening American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play with a commanding 3-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University, the Loras College men's soccer team (6-3-1, 1-0-0 A-R-C) squared off with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (7-1-1, 0-0-0 WIAC) for the second time in a week. A goal from Lucas Sampson late in the second half sparked the Duhawks' offense in the final moments of the game but the Warhawks held off the attack.

The first half of the game saw three goals find the back of the net, with the first coming in the 8th minute in favor of Whitewater on a goal from Matthew Waters to put the Warhawks on the board first.

Alex Beausoleil responded soon thereafter for Loras, on a pass from senior defender Kyler Donovan and past Whitewater goalkeeper Jake King for the equalizer midway through the first half. Twenty minutes later, though, Jacob Mouille scored another for the Warhawks to enter halftime with a one goal advantage.

The Duhawks battled for the majority of the second half, but Faizan Mohuiddin scored again for Whitewater in the 70th minute.

Lucas Sampson had his turn to score minutes later as he took a pass from Felipe Ramirez and squared up for a shot to the lower right corner of the net to spark the Loras offense and bring the Duhawks within one, but the Warhawks held on despite the effort.

Loras outshot Whitewater by a wide 15-6 margin with four of the shots making it on net. Sampson's goal in the 77th minute marked his first of the season, and second career goal for the Duhawks while Beausoleil improved his season goal total to four.

The Duhawks are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 for their Homecoming Game against the Simpson College Storm. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 PM at the Rock Bowl.
