Sept. 3, 2021 - The Loras College men's soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-0 A-R-C) welcomed the Blugolds from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-1-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) in their 2021 home opening matchup at the Rock Bowl on Friday night. After entering halftime with the score tied at one apiece, junior forward
Patrick Clancy broke the stalemate with the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to give the Duhawks their first victory of the season.
Loras wasted zero time getting on the board in the first half, as sophomore
Reed Miklavcic intercepted a Blugold pass, heading the ball to the feet of
Juan Jose Arias Mondragon, who immediately touched it to Clancy who tucked it into the back of the net for his first goal of the night to go ahead 1-0 after three minutes of play.
The one goal lead was cut in half just five minutes later, though, as Eau Claire's Nathan Donovan found the back of the net in the eighth minute to tie the game at 1-1 where the score stayed through the halftime mark and well into the second half of the game.
After an Eau Claire foul gave the Duhawks a free kick from 40 yards out,
Kyler Donovan lined up a setpiece that found Clancy's head and past Blugold goalkeeper Spencer Banks for his second goal of the night, securing a 2-1 win for Loras.
Clancy led the Duhawks' offense all night, rifling off six shots on the night with three on net with two goals. Arias Mondragon, Miklavcic and Donovan each notched an assist and senior goalkeeper
Seth Kurzynski turned away four of the six shots on goal he faced.
The Duhawks are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 5 as they travel north to Moorhead, Minn. to take on the Concordia College Cobbers. Kick off is slated for 11:00 AM.
