DAVENPORT, Iowa (Jan. 15, 2022) – Headlined by a school record performance by junior
Carter Oberfoell and the second-fastest time in program history by sophomore
Ryan Harvey in the 1,000-meter run in addition to eight event wins, the Loras College men's track and field team won the St. Ambrose University Battle in the Hive Meet on Saturday and added to its growing list of nationally-ranked performances.
Keeping on pace with setting records that started with the season opener meet at the University of Dubuque in December Oberfoell added his first school record when he finished third in the 1,000-meter run, running 2:30.18 to break the previous record held by Chris Schaefer in 1999. Harvey finished in tow in 2:31.55 to rank second.
Josh Smith won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86, good for fifth in Division III and took the title in the 200-meter dash, running 22.13 to sit third nationally in the event.
Chris Guise added a third-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:59.53).
Wyatt Kelly won the mile in 4:18.83, putting a five-second gap on the second place finisher and putting himself ninth in Division III. He, Oberfoell,
Ted Kruse, and
Carson Vaske capped off the meet to win the 4-by-400-meter relay, running 3:25.11.
The Duhawks had a great showing in the field events.
Matt Bandy led the charge with the first win of the meet in the high jump, clearing 1.96 meters and
Ryan Rogers tied his all-time best in the pole vault, clearing 4.92 meters to win the event and rank third in Division III. He also won the long jump (7.14 meters) which is good for fourth nationally and just off his all-time best.
Doyle Carroll won the triple jump in 13.60 meters, tying him with
Derik Bunten on Loras' all-time list for seventh.
Neal Eckhoff rounded out the meet with a third-place finish in the weight throw, throwing 16.35 meters.
Loras won the meet with 163.50 points while Grand View University finished second with 145.33 points and the hosts placed third with 95.83 points.
Loras' next meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 22 as the team heads to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Karl Schneider Invite.
