Duhawks' DMR, Seven Event Wins Headline Success at UW-Whitewater

Jan. 22, 2022 – The Loras College men's track and field team won seven events, posted the third-fastest time in Division III in the distance medley relay, and finished second in the team standings at the Karl Schlender Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, on Saturday as the Duhawks continued their impressive start to the 2022 season.

The distance medley relay team of Mike Jasa, Hunter Rickels, Elliot Frideres and Aaron Lodwig raced their way to a top-five time on the NCAA Division III performance list, running 10:42.50 to rank third nationally. The Duhawks swept all three relays with Jasa, Josh Smith, Ted Kruse and Carter Oberfoell winning the 4-by-400-meter relay in 3:21.11 and the 4-by-200-meter relay team of Will Kieffer, Joe Franke, Matt Franz and DJ Almada won with a time of 1:36.68.

Oberfoell won the 600-meter run in 1:21.94, just off his program top-ten mark, and Ryan Rogers won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 seconds. Wyatt Kelly added a win in the 800-meter run (1:56.03) with Ryan Harvey right on his heels in second (1:56.63). Smith added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash (50.54) and Derik Bunten finished second in the long jump (6.52 meters).

For the second week in a row, Matt Bandy took the individual title in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters. Zac Couture finished third in the shot put, throwing 14.09 meters, and Holden Murphy (16.12 meters) and Neal Eckhoff (15.92 meters) added top-three finishes in the weight throw, finishing second and third respectively.

The host Warhawks won the meet with 195 points while the Duhawks scored 186 and Milwaukee School of Engineering finished third with 152.

The Duhawks' next meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 29 at the University of Dubuque.
