Relay Posts Nation's Top Time to Pace No.2 Duhawks at Dubuque

Jan. 29, 2022 – The No. 2-ranked Loras College men's track and field team won eight events and set a pair of facility records on Saturday at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by the University of Dubuque, before capping off the meet with the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Josh Smith, Carter Oberfoell, Ted Kruse and Mike Jasa racing to the top of the Division III performance list.

The relay's time of 3:17.56 improved on the A.Y McDonald mark by more than three seconds and moved the quartet into No. 5 on the Duhawks' all-time list. Smith also added a win in the 60-meter dash, running 6.88 seconds and was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash, running 22.28. Dropping down in distance, Jasa led a 1-2-3 finish for Loras in the 400-meter dash, running a facility-record 49.18 to ran second in Division III this season and followed by Kruse in second with the eighth-fastest time in program history (50.10) and Oberfoell in third (50.65).

In the 800-meter run, Chris Guise won in 2:00.71 and Alex Wilson added a third-place finish, running 2:04.28. Carlo Dannenfelser and Luke Guttormson were the top-two finishers in the mile run, running 4:25.52 and 4:26.00, respectively. Ryan Rogers won the 60-meter hurdles, edging Dubuque's Black Hardison at the line in 8.27. Raymond Venditti won the pole vault with a jump of 4.25 meters.

Ryan Harvey added another win for the Duhawks, taking the crown in the 3,000-meter run with a facility record time of 8:31.53. Wyatt Kelly was the runner-up with a time of 8:33.29, good for fourth on Loras' all-time list.

In the high jump, Matt Bandy finished third, clearing 1.86 meters and Derik Bunten finished second in the long jump (6.73 meters). Holden Murphy was the runner-up in the shot put, throwing 14.51 meters and Neal Eckhoff finished third in the weight throw, throwing 16.13 meters.

The Duhawks posted 206 points to place first of eight teams at the meet, followed by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in second (145 points) and the host Spartans in third (121 points).

The Duhawks look to keep the success going on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Wartburg College Select Meet.
