PELLA, Iowa (Oct. 1, 2022) – The Loras College women's tennis team (6-4, 2-3 A-R-C) won both its American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matches on Saturday, starting with a 9-0 win at Simpson College (2-5, 2-4 A-R-C) and capping off the afternoon with a 6-3 win at Central College (4-5, 3-3 A-R-C).
In doubles play versus the Storm,
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe defeated Kennedi Wright and Bella Tranquilino, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot and
Sara Backus and
Dorothy Deans earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles versus Donni Kinghorn and Carina Covington.
Leia Papanicholas and
Caroline Hutchinson defeated Anna Schewe and Maggie Hall 8-1 to carry the momentum into singles play.
Schwabe scored a 6-2, 6-1 win versus Tranquilino at No. 1 singles and Diiulio matched that with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles versus Kinghorn. Papanicholas defeated Wright 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and Backus defeated Covington 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Hutchinson added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles versus Schewe and
Jessie Yelaska went 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles for a win versus Hall.
The Duhawks took a 2-1 lead following doubles action in the second match of the day at Central as Schwabe and Diiulio scored an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles versus Alex Griggs and Jenna Hernandez and Backus and Deans won 8-4 at No. 2 versus Jennifer Larson and Madi Whalen. Schwabe also posted a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Larson at No. 1 singles and Diiulio defeated Griggs 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Backus defeated Brianna Lindstrom 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Deans tacked on the final win of the day at No. 6 singles with a 7-6, 6-3 victory versus Ashlynn Brant.
The Duhawks continue A-R-C action on the road at Buena Vista University on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
