DUBUQUE, Iowa (Oct. 11, 2022) – For the first time in the 2022 season, the Loras College men's soccer team played to a tie as the Duhawks and University of Dubuque Spartans left their match on Tuesday afternoon deadlocked at 0-0.
The Duhawks (6-5-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C) and Spartans (6-4-4, 2-0-3 A-R-C) have now draw even in their last four matches as each team boasts a 1-1-2 record since the 2020 (Spring 2021) season.
Loras outshot the Spartans 19-9, leaving the Duhawks with a frustrating draw after holding a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Ben Krogman was making just his second start of the season for the Duhawks and made saves of both of the shot attempts he faced in the game to help preserve the tie.
UD's keeper Matt Marchiori was busy for much of the night as Loras led the shot counter 10-3 in the first half. Machiori came up with 10 saves in the game, including six in the second half to keep the Spartans in the game. Sophomore
Michael Koutsopanagos managed a shot in the closing minute of the game, but again it was saved Machiori to keep the score at 0-0.
This marks the first tie for Loras with the new 2022 rules where there is no overtime in the regular season.
The Duhawks are back at home this Saturday, Oct. 15, as they host Central College at 3:30 P.M. Â
