Oct. 15, 2022 – Loras College men's soccer picked up a solid team win on Saturday afternoon as the Duhawks topped the Central College Dutch 3-0 on Senior Day at the Rock Bowl.
The Duhawks (7-5-1, 3-1-1 A-R-C) honored 11 student-athletes during pregame on Saturday, then took care of business versus the Dutch (2-9-2, 1-3-1) to earn their sixth shutout victory of the season.
It took just over five minutes of game time for Loras to get on the board as junior forward
Reed Miklavcic notched his fourth goal of the season. Miklavcic was the beneficiary of some technical passing that allowed junior
Jonathan Landa and sophomore
Bryan Basinger to tally assists on the play after the pass was sent in from the right side.
The Dutch threatened to keep things close early on and had a couple of solid scoring chances turned away by junior goalkeeper
Ben Krogman. Krogman made four saves in the game with the first two, including one outstanding diving stop, coming inside the game's first eight minutes.
Loras cashed in an insurance goal midway through the first half as senior
Alex Beausoleil punched one in after sophomore
Diego Rodriguez sent one across the box to where Beausoleil was waiting by the far post.
The duo had nearly connected on a similar play just a few minutes earlier, but Beausoleil misfired and had to wait for a shot at redemption. That goal was an important one for the Duhawks as it created some separation on the scoreboard despite only outshooting the Dutch 8-5 in the first half.
Loras controlled the pace more consistently in the second half and added one last insurance goal in the 72
nd minute as freshman midfielder
Cole Bridson found the back on the net on a sizzling one-timer shot from the top of the box. Bridson had checked into the game less than one minute prior to his scoring chance, resulting in his second goal of the season.
The Duhawks are on the road for their next game on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they face the Coe College Kohawks at 7:30 P.M. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
