CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 19, 2022) – An early goal from sophomore
Michael Koutsopanagos proved to be just enough for the Loras College men's soccer team as the Duhawks hit the road and snuck out a 1-0 victory at Coe College on Wednesday night.
The Duhawks (8-5-1, 4-1-1 A-R-C) have claimed four of their eight wins this season in 1-0 finals while all but one of their victories in 2022 have been shutouts. The win Wednesday keeps an improbable winning streak alive as the Duhawks have won 19 straight versus the Kohawks (2-13-1, 1-6 A-R-C), dating back to 2001.
Koutsopanagos' game-winning goal came in the 27
th minute on a transition play from the Duhawk offense. Freshman forward
Taylor Sowell led the charge down the middle of the field, dumping the pass off to his right to a streaking Koutsopanagos, who gathered and fired a low shot past the Kohawk goalkeeper to net the first and only score of the game.
The goal marks Koutsopanagos' third goal of the season and his first career game-winner.
Loras fired off 13 shots in the match compared to just five for the Kohawks. Junior goalkeeper
Ben Krogman made saves on both shots on goal he faced in the match and has improved his record to 3-0-1 since stepping into his starting role.
Loras hits the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 22, when the Duhawks take on Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa at 3:30 P.M.
