Box Score DECORAH, Iowa (Oct. 16, 2022) – Singles players and doubles teams from Loras College women's tennis took part in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Tournament over the weekend to conclude the fall season as
Lauren Diiulio and
Isabel Schwabe highlighted the weekend by winning the A-Doubles Championship.
The senior duo finished the fall season with a 10-4 overall record in doubles play, including four straight wins and three victories this weekend in Decorah, Iowa to claim the A-Doubles title.
Diiullio and Schwabe took down doubles opponents from Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Wartburg College to earn a spot in the championship match, where they battled Luther's Julia Moreno and Sofia Sackett to a compelling 8-7 victory.
The Duhawk pairing won the tiebreaker 7-4 to put the finishing touches on the A-Doubles bracket. Schwabe also earned one win in the A-Singles bracket before falling in the second round.
Two more Duhawk pairings found success in B-Doubles as
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas won three straight matches to advance to the championship match of their bracket. To get to the championship match, they first had to take town their teammates
Lauren Silva and
Maura Kapala, who won three straight matches to reach the semifinals.
Hutchinson and Papanicholas battled Luther's Bruna Costa and Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou in the B-Doubles championship but had to settle for runners-up after falling 8-7 (7-5) in the tight battle. The two Duhawks each won twice in their B-Singles bracket as well before getting eliminated in the quarterfinal round.
Finally, a quartet of Duhawks in Silva, Kapala,
Molly Monson, and
Alex Oestreich won two matches in the C-Singles bracket. Oestreich was the only one of the four to advance to the semifinal round, doing so with an emphatic 8-0 win over Simpson's Kira Anderson in the quarterfinals.
The individual tournament concludes the fall portion of the women's tennis schedule. The Duhawks' spring slate will be released later in this academic year.
