Oct. 5, 2022 – Loras College's men's soccer team had a night to forget on Wednesday as the Duhawks were shutout 6-0 by the Luther College Norse in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) match.
The Duhawks (5-5, 1-1 A-R-C) are now back to .500 on the year after this difficult midseason stretch while the Norse (8-1-2, 2-0-1 A-R-C) continued to fire on all cylinders and win their third straight game. It's the first decision in the series in the last three matches as the previous two editions ended in draws.
Marcos Villa took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the 11
th minute after Loras goalkeeper
Owen Johnson was tagged with a yellow card. Villa scored what would be the first of three goals for the senior in the match to get the ball rolling for the Norse.
While already trailing 3-0 late in the first, freshman defender
Zack Liddell committed a foul in desperation to try and prevent another long run for the Norse. Liddell was handed a red card which forced the Duhawks to play down a man for the rest of the match, which furth complicated their efforts against the speedy Luther offense.
The Duhawks got a pair of good looks in the first half on shots from senior
Jared Block and sophomore
Michael Koutsopanagos, but those chances were turned away as the Norse steadily built their lead throughout the first 45 minutes.
Loras is on the road this Saturday, Oct. 8, for its first A-R-C match away from the Rock Bowl this season as the Duhawks face Simpson College at 3:30 P.M. in Indianola, Iowa.
