INDIANOLA, Iowa (Oct. 8, 2022) – A halftime deficit wasn't enough to deter the Loras College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as the Duhawks took down the Simpson College Storm 3-1 in comeback fashion.
The Duhawks (6-5-0, 2-1-0 A-R-C) got back above .500 with the win and claimed its second win in a row in the series with the Storm (9-3-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C).
Despite being outshot in the opening 45 minutes, the Storm tallied the first goal of the game in the 21
st minute as Matt Hasken scored for the second time this season.
Loras came back firing in the second half and scored the equalizer in the 55
th minute when senior midfielder
Felipe Ramirez assisted on a goal for junior midfielder
Jonathan Landa. The goal marks the first of Landa's career in just his second game played this season.
Ramirez and the Duhawks used the momentum to take a lead not long after as Ramirez assisted on a goal for senior midfielder
Kevin Kucaba to make it 2-1 in the 61
st minute. That goal also served as Kucaba's first score of 2022.
Those two goals would have been enough, but the Duhawks added an insurance goal late as freshman forward
Taylor Sowell notched his fourth goal of the season on an assist from sophomore forward
Carson Woods.
The Storm had a couple of solid scoring chances in the second half, but they were all turned away by the Loras defense. Junior goalkeeper
Ben Krogman made his first start of the season in the match and made three saves to help secure the win.
Loras renews its crosstown rivalry with the University of Dubuque on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at UD's Oyen Field at 7:30 P.M.
