Nov. 2, 2022 – No. 15/11 Loras College's women's soccer team has its sight set on yet another American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament Championship this week as the Duhawks start off with Luther College in the semifinal round tonight, Wednesday Nov. 2, at the Rock Bowl at 5 P.M.
The Duhawks (14-0-3, 8-0 A-R-C) ran the table in the A-R-C this season, shutting out all eight of their conference opponents to earn the top seed and a first-round bye in this tournament. Then-No. 18 Loras took down then-No. 7 and previously unbeaten Wartburg College here last week to claim the outright regular-season championship.
That victory propelled the Duhawks to No. 15 in the final United Soccer Coaches regular-season rankings and to No. 11 in the D3soccer.com Top 25.
ABOUT THE NORSE
The tournament's No. 5-seed Luther comes in at 8-7-4 overall after finishing the regular season at 3-3-2 in A-R-C play. The Norse suffered a 2-0 defeat to Loras at the Rock Bowl back on Oct. 5 in the regular season clash between the two teams.
Luther played at fourth-seeded University of Dubuque on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the quarterfinals and came away with a 3-1 road victory to advance.
Junior forward Maggie Haller scored the first of three Luther goals in the victory over UD. Haller leads the team with 12 goals on the season, but was held to just two shots by senior
Olivia Lansing and the rest of the stout Duhawk defense back on Oct. 5.
Luther has beaten Loras just twice since 2010, with the most recent victory coming in 2019. Loras will aim to make it five straight victories in the series on Wednesday evening.
