Mar. 20, 2022 – In its spring home opener, the Loras College men's tennis team could not have asked for better weather for a pair of American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matches on Sunday as the Duhawks (8-6, 2-1 A-R-C) secured two conference wins against Buena Vista University (6-5, 1-1 A-R-C) and Nebraska Wesleyan University (2-5, 1-1 A-R-C) at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
The Duhawks started the day cruising to a 9-0 victory against Buena Vista, beginning with
Kevin Blomquist and
Thomas Kampmier defeating Danny Kramer and Dalton Pregon, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles and
Konnor Barth and
Tommy Linkenheld defeating Brendan Schlader and Diego Diaz, 8-2 at No. 2. The No. 3 pair of
Sean Gelski and
Kareem Kassas won their match, 8-3, against Benjamin Austin and Ryan Webb to sweep doubles play. The momentum continued with Blomquist defeating Kramer at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Kampmier scoring a 6-0, 6-2 win against Schlader to seal the match. Gelski defeated Pregon 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3 singles and Linkenheld added a 6-2, 6-1 win against Brock Bruns at No. 4. Kassas defeated Diaz, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Eian Coad finished the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Webb.
The Duhawks opened the match against Nebraska Wesleyan with a 2-1 advantage in doubles play led by Blomquist and Kampmier defeating Ryan Carey and Will Olson, 8-5 at No. 1 and Barth and Linkenheld defeated Jacob Blafany and Max Rademacher at No. 2, 8-6. The Prairie Wolves took the No. 3 match but the Duhawks answered back with Barth and Coad scoring victories at the No. 4 and 5 singles matches. Barth won his match at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1 against Rademacher and Coad won the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-3 against Daniel Bernhardson. Nebraska Wesleyan answered back with wins at No. 2, 3 and 6, leaving the deciding match up to Blomquist at the No. 1 position. The senior battled back from a first set loss to Carey to win the next two 6-2, 6-4 and clinch the win for the Duhawks, 5-4.
Loras continued A-R-C action on Wednesday, Mar. 30 at the University of Dubuque at 3:00 P.M.
