STANFORD, Calif. (Apr. 2, 2022) – Just weeks after both teams recorded historic performances and brought home podium finishes at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship, Loras College track and field student-athletes
Kassie Parker and
Mike Jasa continued to put Loras' name on the map as the pair represented the Duhawks at the Stanford University Invitational on Apr. 1 and 2. Parker picked up where she left off indoors and raced her way to the top of the Division III record books with an astounding performance in the 10,000-meter run and Jasa competed as the only non-Division I competitor in the 800-meter run, running the third-fastest time in Division III this season.
Parker, coming off a pair of national titles indoors and the cross country national champion in the fall, had her sights set on the NCAA Division III national record in the 10,000-meter run as she took to the track under the lights at Stanford on Friday. The Guttenberg, Iowa native currently owns the fastest all-time, all-conditions 5,000-meter mark indoors as the first Division III woman to break 16 minutes (15:58.58) and the second-fastest record-eligible time in the 3,000-meter run (9:13.10). Her performance on Friday gave her sole possession and no question of the all-time mark in the 10,000-meter run, crushing the 19-year old record held by Keane State University's Mary Proulx by 18 seconds to run 33:03.61, one minute and 16 seconds faster than her previous school record, and taking fourth in the elite field.
Jasa took to the track on Saturday for the 800-meter run, toeing the line against as the only Division III runner in the field. The defending national champion in the event, Jasa ran 1:51.58 to finish third in his heat and place 11th overall in the field. The Fairfax, Iowa native is the school record holder in the event both indoors and outdoors and a three-time All-American at the distance in addition to All-America honors with the 4-by-400-meter relay.
The Duhawks are back in action in Dubuque on Saturday, Apr. 9 at the University of Dubuque.
