PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Loras College women's track and field team traveled across the river to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for the UW-Platteville Invitational, held Friday, April 10 through Saturday, April 11.
Caitlyn Cox and Keelee Leitzen led the way for the Purple and Gold, each claiming first-place finishes in their respective events. Cox dominated the hammer throw with a mark of 55.82 meters, while Leitzen won the 1,500 meters in 4:28.57.
On the track, Loras saw a strong showing of personal-best performances in the sprints. In the 100 meters Layla Hughes clocked a personal-best 12.96, followed closely by Iva Senio at 12.98 and Emmy Hughes at 14.82. The momentum carried into the 200 meters, where Bryn Meyer recorded a personal-best 26.17, while Julia Klein (26.52) and Meghan McDonald (26.74) each posted season-best times. Senio (27.40) and Emery Wherry (27.72) also added personal-best efforts.
In the 400 meters, Rosie Flynn and Katie Flynn both turned in personal-best performances, finishing third and fourth, respectively, with times of 57.41 and 57.61.
The middle-distance group continued the trend, highlighted by Ivy Glendening's personal-best 2:18.48 in the 800 meters. Bailey Vaughan (2:28.00) and Lily Molloy (2:28.90) each recorded season-best times, while Natalia Saucedo added a personal-best 2:44.99. In the 1,500 meters, Savannah Davis (4:53.00) and Hannah Landwehr (5:30.45) both posted personal-best marks.
The Duhawks also delivered strong results in the distance events, as Vaughan notched a season-best 18:08.96 in the 5,000 meters. Paige Jacobs (18:36.47), Taylor Hoger (19:35.28), Mila Grothus (20:03.83) and Mary Jo Fischer (20:56.80) all recorded personal-best times, while Sarah Gibson added a season-best 22:05.90.
In the hurdles, Wherry led the way in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best 15.67, followed by personal-best performances from Andelyn Cabalka (16.10) and Abby Pierce (16.19). Layla Hughes added another personal-best effort in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:09.35.
The relay teams also saw success, beginning with the 4x100-meter relay team of McDonald, Meyer, Layla Hughes and Katie Flynn, which recorded a personal-best 48.65. The second team of Klein, Maddie Mucci, Senio and Rosie Flynn also posted a personal-best time of 50.65. In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Katie Flynn, Leitzen, Layla Hughes and Rosie Flynn placed third with a personal-best 3:51.06, while the second team of Savannah Davis, Glendening, Molloy and Pierce added a personal-best 4:16.69.
In the field events, Audra Gallick led the way in shot put with a personal-best mark of 10.58 meters, while Lilly Anderson added a personal-best 8.75 meters and also recorded a personal-best 26.57 meters in discus. In the hammer throw, Eliana Malatt posted a personal-best 44.51 meters, Gallick added a season-best 39.92 meters and Anderson contributed a personal-best 35.04 meters.
Emily Jackson recorded a personal-best 34.88 meters in the javelin, while Cabalka added a personal-best 1.38 meters in the high jump and a personal-best 4.93 meters in the long jump. In the triple jump, Wherry posted a personal-best 10.63 meters and Mucci added a season-best 10.42 meters.
