DUBUQUE, Iowa – Head men's and women's track and field coach
Logan Stroman has announced the addition of Justin Romero to his staff as the new throws coach.
"We are thrilled to add Coach Romero to our staff." Stroman said. "He brings a deep passion and a proven track record of success. His positive energy and upbeat attitude naturally inspire everyone around him. Our throwing program is in great hands for years to come"
Romero comes to Loras most recently serving as a volunteer coach at Western Dubuque High School for the past two seasons. In that time, Western Dubuque produced seven state qualifiers, three state scorers, 2025 State Runner Up in the Shot Put, and a discus school record (177' 1").
In 2019, Romero spent a year at the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he helped coach the Sun Belt conference champion in the women's weight throw (20.19m), along with two all-conference performers.
Romero also spent five years at Southwest Minnesota State University as the assistant track and field coach for throws. At SMSU, Romero helped guide the program after it became a division II program in 2013. Under the guidance of Romero, SMSU had its first female track and field athlete qualify for the Division II NCAA Championship in discus.
Romero has also worked with the USA Deaf Track & Field team, covering the coaching responsibilities for long jumpers, high jumpers, and all throwing events. Romero's athletes competed in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics in Turkey, taking home the silver medal in high jump. Romero was also selected to coach during the 2019 World Deaf Indoor Championships in Estonia.
Romero earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies from Northern Iowa in 2012. He minored in chemistry and coaching while at UNI. As a student-athlete, Romero was a two-time indoor conference champion and two-time outdoor conference runner-up. He was a Division I All-American and set personal bests in shot-put (19.01m) and discus (50.33m).
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of Loras Track & Field and its rich tradition of excellence." Romero said. "Track and Field has always been a major part of my family's life, and I'm excited to begin this next chapter, contribute to the program's success, and represent Loras with pride."
