Apr. 26, 2022 - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) AQ Tournament kicked off at the Tucker Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon, seeing the No. 4-seeded Loras College women's tennis team (11-6, 5-3 A-R-C) take on the No. 5-seeded Simpson College Storm (4-11, 4-4 A-R-C). The Duhawks took an early 2-1 lead after doubles action and took down the Storm in singles to end the match with a final score of 5-3 to advance in the tournament.

The Storm took the No. 1 doubles match between Isabel Schwab and Caroline Hutchinson and Simpson's Anna Wanek and Emily King. The Duhawks quickly bounced back in the No. 2 doubles match that saw Leia Papanicholas and Clair Moore defeat Donni Kinghorn and Bella Tranquilino with a final score of 8-5. Dorothy Deans and Sara Backus closed out doubles action with an 8-0 shutout over Kennedi Wright and Anna Schewe in the No. 3 matchup.

In singles action, Simpson earned a pair of wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches but the Duhawks continued to press on as Hutchinson earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kinghorn in the No. 3 singles match.

In the No. 6 match, Alex Oestreich went up against Schewe and earned a two-set victory with final scores of 6-2, 6-0.

Papanicholas squared off against Tranquilino in the No. 4 singles matchup, seeing Tranquilino take the first set but Papanicholas fought back to take the last two sets 6-2, 6-4 to lock the match with a final score of 5-3.

The No. 5 singles matchup between Deans and Wright was unfinished with the match tied at a set apiece as the match reached its final point before completion.

The Duhawks' quarterfinals victory moves them on in the tournament to take on the top-seeded Luther College Norse in the semifinals round on Friday, Apr. 29. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM in Decorah, Iowa.
