Apr. 9, 2022 – With standout performances across multiple events, the No. 19-ranked Loras College men's track and field team found success at the University of Dubuque Open on Saturday with a second-place team finish fueled by the fastest 4-by-400-meter relay time in Division III this season and an excellent showing by Loras' throwing crew as the Duhawks continued the strong start to the outdoor campaign.

The Duhawks saw two huge performances in the hammer throw by Neal Eckhoff and Holden Murphy as Eckhoff launched the sixth-farthest toss in program history (53.40 meters), ranking him tenth in Division III this season, and Murphy threw 51.06 meters, good for eighth in program history. Murphy also won the discus, throwing 50.88 meters to rank third in program history and second in Division III and finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.93 meters. Ross Stauffacher added a third-place finish in the discus as well, throwing 44.27 meters.

Ethan Hammerand and Brandon Doser posted a 1-2 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Hammerand winning the event in 9:50.05 and Doser running 9:59.47. Mike Jasa stepped up in distance and won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.54, ranking tenth in program history, and Luke Guttormson added a third-place finish, running 4:01.52. The Duhawks posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-meter dash, led by Doyle Carroll running 11.06 seconds, Frank Day going 11.12 and De'Andre Klein running 11.16. Josh Smith won the 200-meter dash in 22.11. Ryan Harvey won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.32, ranking sixth nationally and seventh in Loras history while Chris Guise finished second with a time of 1:55.84.

Carter Oberfoell added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, running 50.52, and Ted Kruse finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.39.

The relays were strong with a pair of victories as the 4-by-100-meter quartet of Carroll, Smith, Klein and Derik Bunten ran 41.93, tying their No. 16-ranked time this season, and the 4-by-400-meter relay of Smith, Jasa, Kruse and Oberfoell ran the fastest time in Division III this season at 3:14.36 to take a one-second lead in the event.

In the jumps, Bunten won the long jump with a leap of 6.80 meters, and finished third in the triple jump, going 13.22 meters. Raymond Venditti won the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters, and Matt Bandy cleared 1.95 meters to win the high jump.

The host Spartans won the meet with 276.50 points with the Duhawks in second with 250.50 points. Cornell College placed third with 64 points.

Loras is set to host the Easter Midweek Meet on Wednesday, Apr. 13 and will send its distance crew to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Thursday, Apr. 14.
